Drilling mud agitator is a special agitator for oil drilling solids control. There are different specifications and models. It cannot be simply used in chemical, petroleum refining, food and other industries. How to choose a drilling mud agitator, here are 4 aspects to pay attention to.

How to Choose a Drilling Mud Agitator

  1. Rotating speed of drilling mud agitator

In oil drilling solids control, in order to prevent the drilling cuttings from being powdered during the mixing process, the speed of the selected mud agitator should not be too high, and the speed of the mud agitator should be selected as far as possible between 50-60 rpm. For Drilling mud agitators exceeding 60 rpm, users are advised to be cautious.

  1. Drilling mud agitator power

Judging from the actual measurement of the movement power of the drilling fluid agitator, the actual output power of the mud agitator does not exceed 2kw. At present, there are 7.5kw and 5kw motor power agitators on the market. The guiding ideology of its design is that it can be started even after the impeller is shut down and buried by sand. But in fact, either the motor is burned or the impeller is broken. Therefore, the new type of mud agitator has been improved in structure. For example, if the impeller that has been put into production is used to raise a certain height after it stops rotating, the impact of sand settling is small at this time.

  1. Sealing of the agitator

According to the existing use experience, it is not suitable to use the end face seal for the shaft of the drilling mud agitator due to the very bad working conditions, and it is difficult to adapt to the general packing seal. At present, the more successful is the use of multiple sets of V-shaped packing, which has self-sealing performance and self-rewarding ability, and will not cause lubricant leakage problems without maintenance or adjustment for a long time.

  1. The choice of agitator impeller

There are many types of mud agitator impellers, single impeller and double impeller, but it must be noted that a small diameter blade, high speed mud agitator must have a small circulation volume and a large shear force, so it is not suitable for purpose of drilling fluid solid phase suspension. Therefore, the impeller diameter should generally be larger.

In addition, mud agitators are divided into worm gear type and helical gear type. Turbine impellers have been widely used in drilling fluid agitators. Among them, the open type turbine is the best. Since there is no central disc part, it will not hinder the blades. Convective mixing of the upper and lower liquid phases. Only when the above-mentioned problems are fully considered, can the suitable mud agitator be selected and can be better applied to actual operation.
